In front of their loved ones and fellow classmates, approximately 200 Wapakoneta High School graduates received their diplomas Saturday.

An exact number was not known by press time. The graduation ceremony, held in the WHS gymnasium, began at 10:30 a.m. Wapakoneta High School principal Scott Minnig kicked things off by giving a few remarks and welcoming everyone to the 144th commencement. Seeing this group graduate is bittersweet, as it's the last group of students he taught, he said.

After a performance given by choir students, Nicholas Bruns, Alisha Dirr, Sarina Dangelo, Benjamin Schroer and WHS Class of 2016 Valedictorian Kylie Timmerman gave speeches. These were the top five graduating seniors.

Remarks were also given by Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner, WCS Board of Education Vice President Ron Mertz and Judy Wells, superintendent of Apollo Career Center.
