Public health employees got a taste of what a real mass fatality situation would be like during a functional exercise held at the Auglaize County Health Department on Wednesday.

The exercise was put on as a joint effort between the Health Department and Joint Township Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. The scenario consisted of a hypothetical mass fatality situation which overwhelmed the county’s capacity to keep up with numerous deaths over an extended period of time due to a disease outbreak.

Participants included Health Department employees and representatives from other county or local groups, including Steve Stienecker of the Auglaize County Coroner’s office, Troy Anderson of the county’s Emergency Management and Becky Bayliff, who represented local funeral directors.
