According to multiple Facebook posts, many city residents were noticing discolored tap water at their homes over the weekend. The City of Wapakoneta Safety-Service Director has noted that the water is safe to drink and just contains excess iron.
According to Safety-Service Director Chad Scott, the water treatment plant experienced a mechanical failure Saturday evening, which resulted in an excess amount of iron being placed in the city's drinking water. The drinking water should return to its normal color by Tuesday, he said.
Scott said nothing needs to be done to drinking water before consumption, but residents can run their water longer than normal if desired to help flush the system out faster.
