There is only one race for a county office in the upcoming March primary election: the race between incumbent Don Regula and longtime Wapakoneta City Council member Dan Lee for the office of Auglaize County Commissioner. Both Republican candidates desire to make Auglaize County the best it can be.

Regula has been a county commissioner since 2009, and his current term comes to a close at the end of this year. He has had a hand in a number of accomplishments for the county since he started, but he also had one very important message to county residents: a big thank you for passing the county’s sales tax continuation for an another 10 years.

“We were so fortunate that (voters) passed it and it made our job so much easier,” Regula said. “It was so important that they did that.”

Regula said he really enjoys being a commissioner and is very passionate about Auglaize County and its people.

“I don’t have an agenda,” Regula said. “My ‘agenda’ is I want the best for Auglaize County, the people. I want them to be safe, I want them to go home, (have) affordable housing. I want them to — if they want to work here — to try and have a job here. If they don’t want to work here, at least they can come home. I want to make it nice for them.”

A resident of the county since 1946, Regula served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 in Germany, and he and his wife Linda have been in grain farming since 1970. Regula says one perspective he brings to the table is knowing the value of hard work and a good work ethic.
