Many of us who have a furry friend or two do whatever we can to make sure that they are in tip top shape and have the best health possible, and the Auglaize County Humane Society has that same mindset.
Spay Days is coming back to the Humane Society, coinciding with February being National Spay/Neuter Month. The Humane Society is offering rebate vouchers that can be used with local veterinarians. A list of participating veterinarians is available at the Humane Society along with additional discounts they might have.
People can pick these up starting on Feb. 1, and the appointments must be made between Feb. 15 and March 15. A check for $25 for each dog and $15 for each cat will be mailed to you after the spay or neuter is completed.
“Pets need to be spayed and neutered,” said Deb Logan, manager of the Humane Society. “Female dogs need to be done before their first heat. It protects from stuff like pyrometra and mammary tumors and things like that. Male dogs need to be done between six months and a year and it helps prevent testicular cancer, it cuts down on their need to run and find a female, and it calms them down.”
