Benjamin D. Stoll, 29, of Lima, was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Pusheta Road, east of Brown Road.
Stoll was a passenger in a G.A. Wintzer truck driven by James E. Benshoff Jr., 41, of Wapakoneta.
According to the report released by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Benshoff was driving eastbound on Pusheta Road and drifted off the right side of the roadway and started sliding down the embankment. He attempted to correct the slide and was unsuccessful. After overcorrecting, the truck rolled over and came to rest on its top, trapping both occupants inside the vehicle.
Benshoff Jr. was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center by Wapakoneta Fire and EMS.
The St. Johns Fire Department used the Jaws of Life rescue tool to get Stoll out of the vehicle; he was pronounced dead at the scene by Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag.
The OHP news release said Benshoff Jr. was not wearing a seat belt; Stoll was wearing his seatbelt. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash and alcohol is not suspected.
The crash remains under investigation.
