BOE votes to put levy on ballot

Wapakoneta City Schools will be asking for a little bit of help from the community this spring, as the Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a Resolution of Necessity on Thursday for a school safety and security levy, which will appear on the May 7, 2019 ballot.

The levy, which has long been under discussion, would be set at 1 Mil–one dollar per $1,000 of assessed property value–would raise $400,000 for the district to implement a number of safety and security measures, should it be approved by voters.

In terms of an individual taxpayer, the levy would cost $35 a year per $100,000 of value on their home, would be first collected in 2020, and would last five years.

If the levy is approved, the new funds would be put entirely toward safety and security, in terms of both protection and prevention.
