City officials may see a raise in 2020

Wapakoneta’s elected officials may soon be earning more money if pending legislation is passed.

Bonnie Wurst, chairman of Wapakoneta City Council’s Finance Committee, asked that legislation be prepared that ups the salary of elected officials starting in January 2020. Wurst noted legislators could not give themselves a raise while in office; all of the city’s elected positions will appear on the November 2020 ballot.

Council member and president of council stipends would increase by $1,000, to $5,700 and $5,800 respectively. The city auditor and law director’s salary would increase $4,000 per year — from $26,000 to $30,000 and the city treasurer would see a $500 increase to $9,500.
