WMS students honor veterans

Wapakoneta Middle School students on Monday were urged to spend time with veterans because “their stories are national treasures,” to say the Pledge of Allegiance with reverence and to stand at the playing of the National Anthem.

America “can and should be proud of their veterans,” said Col. Jeffrey Goodes, recently retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and coach and substitute teacher at the middle school. Goodes was the keynote speaker during the annual veterans salute, hosted at WMS.

Goodes spoke about those who took an oath to support and defend our county’s shores, from both foreign and domestic threats and unflinchingly sacrificed for the good of the country.

“These men and women followed our colors into harm’s way,” Goodes said.
