Citywide trick-or-treating begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday and runs until 7:30 p.m., but if you're just stopping at houses around the neighborhood, you'll be missing out!
Several local organizations will be hosting their own trick-or-treating events to celebrate Halloween on Thursday evening, and invite the public to join them.
The Wapakoneta Police Department will have officers and dispatchers–dressed as your favorite Disney characters–handing out candy at the Police Station, located at 701 Parlette Ct., during regular trick-or-treating hours.
The Wapakoneta Fire and EMS will also be joining in on the fun at the firehouse, 103 Willipie St., as they do most years, handing out candy and showing off some of their fire-fighting equipment.
A few churches will also be hosting their own events, as Harvest Baptist Church, 1301 Navajo Trail, will again be hosting their annual Trunk-N-Treat.
Instead of going from house to house, trick-or-treaters will move from car to car, receiving candy from parishioners at the church, in between games, rides, and snacks from 6 to 8 p.m.
First English Lutheran Church, 107 W. Mechanic St., will have their Fellowship Hall doors open during the community trick-or-treating hours with games, candy, and a visit from Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts Gang.
Two area nursing homes are also inviting the public to their festivities, as both the Gardens of Wapakoneta, 505 Walnut St., and Wapakoneta Manor, 1010 Lincoln Ave., will be handing out candy from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Wapakoneta Manor will also be announcing the winner of their pumpkin decorating contest on Thursday, which has been open to entries for the entire month of October.
Wednesday is the last day to submit your pumpkin with the Activity Department at the Manor, and all contestants should leave their name, age, and telephone number. Age groups are 5 and under, 6-10, 11-14, and 15 and up.
The Armstrong Air and Space Museum will also be offering a chance to get an extra night of trick-or-treating in at tonight's annual Boo! on the Moon, which runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Those in costume will receive half-off regular admission, and will get to trick-or-treat and play games at the space and aeronautics museum.
