After another back and forth discussion, and a somewhat confusing go-round of just what was being requested, Wapakoneta City Council members on Monday authorized administration to draft an amendment of the rates and charges section of its existing refuse/recycling department ordinance to reflect a $2 increase, effectively deciding to keep the department and leave the collection in-house.
Councilman Jim Neumeier cast the only no vote on the motion; Neumeier has said in the past he thinks outsourcing the collection is more cost effective for the city. He repeated those sentiments after Monday’s council meeting.
“We’re effectively raising everyone’s rates and for what? We’re still picking everything up,” Neumeier said. “We’re paying more just so we can do it. That doesn’t make any sense.”
