Texas Triker raising PTSD awareness

Greg Hook — the Texas Triker — is cycling to the four corners of the United States, making friends along the way and raising awareness for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Texas resident — a Spencerville native — was in Wapakoneta both Thursday and Saturday, telling his story to the members of the local VFW Post, who in turn, along with members of the local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter, sent him on his way with donations to his cause.

Hook’s goal is to raise $25,000 for the Christian Warriors Retreat Center, the place that helped save his life after his son lost his to PTSD.

Hook said his son returned home from Iraq in 2010 suffering from PTSD; it was a time that there was not a lot of support for veterans with that affliction. Hook, himself a Navy veteran, thought then there should be an effort to raise awareness of the disorder and started making preliminary plans for a cycling trip with that goal.
