Cridersville Village Council members Monday left on the table an ordinance that would create a Community Revitalization District, following a public hearing that at times could be described as a bit chaotic. The public hearing was held prior to council’s regular monthly meeting.
In March, Rulon Smith, developer of the proposed gun club to be located east of Interstate 75 on land recently annexed to the village, sent a letter to Mayor Rick Walls, asking council consider establishing the Community Revitalization District, a move that would allow the creation of new liquor permits within the established district. Smith plans to establish a new restaurant and hotel as part of his gun club concept.
“The Revitalization District can serve as an economic development tool for the community, making it easier to attract new capital investment,” Smith said in the letter dated March 8. Smith said the lack of liquor permits within the village would make it difficult to continue with the plan.
